July 2 at Front Street in Dayton

July 2 at Front Street in Dayton

I did my first chalk art for Front Street Galleries in downtown Dayton on Friday night July 2. I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to go do it because I had just finished my 4th of July Driveway chalk art that morning and I would be tired, but I wasn't. I made a spur of the moment design idea change to July 4th Gnomes!

Because of the rough surface, I used my biggest chalks. I was finished in less than an hour! And because it was in the evening it was shaded!

2021 Fourth of July Driveway Artwork

I almost thought I wouldn't be able to do my driveway chalk art for the fourth of July this year because I had been raining so much. But the rain did finally break in the evening on July 1st and I was able to do it! I started it late Thursday July 1st in the evening and finished it before lunch on Friday July 2nd.

I decided to enter my artwork for the Centerville-Washington Township Americana Festival "Spirit of Americana Patriot Award." I didn't win but I got a nice certificate for participating!

Here is the finished product and my design below.

I actually started it on Thursday night and finished it on Friday morning.

Didn't take too long! Finished by lunch on Friday!

Chalking Class @ Middletown Art Center

Chalking Class @ Middletown Art Center

June 30-July 1

I had the opportunity to teach a workshop on chalk art for teens at the Middletown Art Center in Middletown Ohio https://www.middletownartscenter.com/about it was my first class post COVID https://www.middletownartscenter.com/about

The kids did a great job! Unfortunately is was raining both days, so we couldn't do our chalk art outside. Instead we worked inside! On the second day we even worked on the floor to give them the feeling of working on the ground. They came up with some fantastic art!

First day was spent at tables creating a design.
Then we moved to the floor to work on our chalk art!

Some were able to work under the cover out front of the building.

They created some really nice artworks!

Not Chalk Art...

Not Chalk Art but Street Painting

June 5, 2021

My first chalk art of 2021 was actually not chalk art at all it was street painting! I had the opportunity to paint storm sewers at Saint Ann's Hill in Dayton. The neighborhood sponsored this event and supplied all the paint (red, yellow, blue, black and white) and painting supplies. I brought my own brushes and my beach umbrella. I was so glad that I had my umbrella, because it was such a hot day. My spot was at Fifth and Henry Streets in Dayton.

It took me only a few hours to complete, which was good because it was so hot. I had a visitor during that time: my grandson, Roland, came to visit me! The nice thing about this design is that it will be there for years to come!

Here is a picture of the finished product below:
